Here’s how to make a great Smart Mirror for cheap

At it’s heart: A Raspberry Pi, any generation, running a custom modified version of some OS…

Repurposing pre-manufactured mirrors into smart mirrors with a built in monitor screen tied to a Raspberry Pi. Multiple generations & models of Raspberry Pi can be used, as well as virtually any mirror or corresponding screen of your choosing.

The operating system running on the Raspberry Pi and displaying behind your smart mirror is the brains behind everything and controls how appearance can be changed and customized to user preference and need.

These smart mirrors can pose a security risk, being tied to personal calendars, home networks, etc. Several measures are taken to address this issue;
> In-person operating system installs for auditing and transparency
> Network-hardening through custom profiles and settings
> Cryptographic layer of security
> SSH & HTTPS security defaults enabled

As always, great effort and care is put into shipping heavy, fragile items with electronic parts. No exception is taken here. Shipping can be expensive and this is a service I primarily offer locally.

Additionally, there is a walkthrough package where I can be available for 3, 1-hour blocks to video chat and help with the physical installation and software setup as well, if you want to do it yourself to avoid shipping premiums, but need a bit of help and want to additionally benefit from the custom security measures, performance tweaks, and visual improvements I’ve improved upon in developing my own smart mirrors.
